Great Tansu!

Wow!

This is a lovely old Japanese kitchen Tansu (chest on chest)!

As expected it is two pieces. The upper contains two full-width storage compartments, accessed by sliding doors.  The lower one of these has a shelf inside, which could be removed if desired. Below this are three drawers, originally used for cooking implements and accessories. the lower section has one large storage compartment, with an interior shelf.  At the bottom are two half width drawers.

It measures 68 1/4 inches tall, 40 1/2 inches wide and 193/4 inches deep. It is in excellent condition and we are asking $950.

  1. That’s really a beautiful piece. It got me interested in Japanese kitchens, and these kinds of chests seem to be common, as do sliding cabinet doors. I’m going to appropriate the sliding door idea for my own upcoming remodel. No more bumped heads!
